3 Signs You Need A Mental Health Day

by Madison Dookheran

Many individuals in today’s day and age have a work mode mindset, that even when you are tired you need to wake up, get out of bed, and go to work. Some of us refuse to take off from work even when we are sick from a cold where we feel drained both physically and mentally. Even though one’s physical health is highly important, their mental health is equally if not more important. Sometimes we just need a mental health day, a day of no work completely committed to healing your psychological and emotional health.

By taking time to break away from the everyday stresses and problems. We often do not even realize that we are slowly burning ourselves out until we are, completely burnt out. According to the National Alliance on Mental Health, roughly 43.8 million adults in the United States experience mental illness. The upsetting part about this is that only 40% of that 43.8 million people have been treated.  In order to stop this from happening, we need to look out for the signs for a well-deserved mental health day. The main question is: How do we know when our brain needs a much-needed break from the stress of our daily lives?

  1. Severe Exhaustion

Did you know that over working yourself whether its physical, mental or both will lead to exhaustion? This tiredness is going to be like no other, this is going to be severe exhaustion. No matter how tired you are, you are most likely going to find it very hard to fall asleep. No matter how much you sleep, you are still going to find yourself being tired. To stop this from happening, you need to take a mental health day to sleep dressed in some cozy clothes and wrapped in a warm fluffy blanket.

  1. Having a hard time focusing on simple tasks

Do you feel like your brains are all scrambled and you are taking extra-long to complete simple tasks? It can be hard to juggle the different aspects of life, keeping up with family, friends, work, even selfcare. We are bound to feel clutter minded and due to this we are not going to put our full attention on tasks at hand. To prevent this from happening you can take a mental health day to slow down in order to collect your thoughts and feelings.

  1. You feel disconnected

Nothing makes someone feel more disconnected than not being their mentally but still pushing through to show up for the world around. When you feel disconnected you will not want to form and uphold relationships. You might begin to push the people around you away because you find it draining to upkeep these relationships. With that being said, a mental health day is mandatory to fix the feeling of being disconnected. You can take this time to reconnect with your family, friends and even yourself.
