Helpful Tips for cold & flu season
Cold & Flu Season is Quickly Approaching! If you are anything like me, you absolutely hate getting and feeling sick. Not to mention it might be extremely easy for you to get sick just by walking outside in the cold. This time of the year can be very hard as colds, flus and other illnesses are prevalent.
Here are 8 helpful tips for the season:
- Hydrate: The recommended amount of water one should drink per day is 8 glasses. During a season like this, you can exceed the recommended amount. Water flushes out toxins in the body before they get an opportunity to travel to the body’s most important organs. Studies have also proven that people who intake less than three glasses of water a day are more likely to fall ill of the flu.
- Wash your hands frequently: Throughout the day you should wash your hands with warm water and soap very frequently. Make sure that while you are washing your hands you are getting the dirt under your nails.
- Get your protein on: Keep your immune system strong by eating foods enriched in protein. Of course, you also want to choose the healthy, high protein foods such as eggs, cheese, beans and even meat.
- Sweat out the toxins: Help your body discard of toxins, germs and impurities by exercising. Did you know that getting your heart rate up will strengthen your immune system. Now before you get out of bed to exercise, evaluate how you are feeling. Do you have a temperature or maybe you might still have coughing fits? If so, get the rest you need until you feel ready and healthy enough to exercise.
- Hands away from your face: While we are sick, we are often rubbing our eyes, wiping our noses and mouths. Keeping your hands away from your face will prevent the spread of the cold. Paired with washing your hands frequently you can reduce your symptoms and reduce the length of your cold.
- Juice It: Juicing is a great way to get the vitamins and minerals your body needs from both fruits and vegetables. You can find lot of delicious recipes on juices on line that cater to your taste buds. It is recommended to eat 9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day, which most of us tend to dismiss. Juicing is a quick and tasty way to make sure you are getting the recommended amount.
- More tea please: Drinking hot tea has many benefits that have been known since basically the beginning of time. Drinking teas with either lemon or honey can help in multiple ways. Did you know that by breathing in steam, the hair follicles in your nose can sift out germs more efficiently? Not only does tea soothe a sore throat but it can also help lessen the amount of mucus in your body.
- Stay Clean: Personal hygiene like washing your hands and keeping your hands away from your face are important, but making sure the area around you is clean is just as important if not more. Make sure you clean surfaces and change your sheets regularly, you don’t want to keep the germs around to make you feel sick longer than necessary.
